Youtube should follow the script....

I heard yesterday that eBay is to sell Skype as it doesn't complement their core business, how they didn't realise this when they bought it I don't totally understand, but regardless it got me thinking about when large corporations buy up and coming technology firms hoping that they can turn a profit in the future. I would of thought the dot com crash showed how  a websites popularity does not necessarily result in revenue. Youtube is the most recent example of this, it appears that Google is still unsure of how exactly to use youtube to create revenue, they also have a huge legal battle (sued $1 billion dollars by Viacom) on their hands over copyright infringements.

However I came across what I think is an amazing technology during the summer (also quite simple). It is www.clikthrough.com. This technology allows a user watching a music video to buy any item in that video! You simply scroll your mouse over items to get a description, and if you like it, you can click and it allows you to get all details at side of screen. It even highlights where the video was shot for tourism purposes. Seen as companies already pay huge amounts for product placement in these videos, I think that this is definitely the next step. As someone who made money from selling a product in a music video, I naturally think this is a great service. I have often watched music videos and thought, " I like that jumper, watch etc". If this was available on youtube videos, it would be amazing! It is not only relevant to music videos either as the same goes for tv shows and films. I am still trying to find someone that makes a hoody Turtle wore in Entourage!

This has to be used for full effect the link below is done using clikthrough

Could this be a way for google finally to make some sponds from youtube??
